[\/vc_column_text][vc_row_inner css=”.vc_custom_1661533903231{padding-right: 1.5em !important;padding-left: 1.5em !important;}”][vc_column_inner css=”.vc_custom_1660121747321{margin-bottom: 1em !important;}”][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1691152400534{margin-bottom: 2em !important;}”]In the morning we leave early again and return to Raiatea (the crossing will take about 6 hours).<\/span><\/span> We will have to replenish our supplies and, of course, get to know the island better!<\/span><\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”4241″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1691152416204{margin-top: 2em !important;margin-bottom: 2em !important;}”]Raiatea, the second largest island in French Polynesia, is not as popular as Tahiti or Bora Bora, which makes it even more attractive for us – because no one will stop us from getting to know the delights of this wonderful place!<\/span><\/span> Raiatea, or “sacred island”, is not in vain considered the birthplace of all Polynesian civilizations.<\/span><\/span> Once upon a time, the Maori tribe lived on the land of Raiatea Island, then it was called Hawaiki (or Hawaii\u2019Nui) and was the religious and cultural center of all ancient Polynesia.<\/span><\/span> According to ancient legends, it was from this island that representatives of the Maori set off, who were considered first-class navigators and discovered many islands in the Pacific Ocean – from the Hawaiian Islands to New Zealand.<\/span><\/span> Since that time, amazing archaeological and historical monuments have been preserved on Raiatea.<\/span><\/span> Among them, for example, the ancient temple of Taputapuatea marae.<\/span><\/span> It is dedicated to the god of war and is the most famous and largest marae (sacred site) in all of French Polynesia.<\/span><\/span> Here, in the west of the island, there is another marae – Tainu.<\/span><\/span> It was built as a small copy of Taputapuatea.<\/span><\/span> The main temple consists of seven stone temples.<\/span><\/span> As legends say, it was here that priests from all, even the most distant, Polynesian islands gathered and made sacrifices, it was here that the most important issues were always resolved.<\/span><\/span> There are also many fragments of terraces, various ancient cult objects, tools, and weapons on the island.<\/span><\/span> Most of them were found in the Aver and Khaapapara valleys.<\/span><\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”4242″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1691152431321{margin-top: 2em !important;}”]In addition to viewing historical monuments, there are many other ways to spend your leisure time on Raiatea.<\/span><\/span> For example, you can choose to cruise on the only navigable river, Faaroa.<\/span><\/span> During it, you will get acquainted with the unique plants and animals that grow here and live in the coastal zone, for example, with the exotic tiare apetahi flower.<\/span><\/span> This beautiful four-leaf white flower blooms only at dawn, and at the same time makes sounds similar to crackling.<\/span><\/span> Many locals specially come here to spend the night in order to “hear” how the tiare apetakhi blooms.<\/span><\/span> And having visited the market of the city of Uturoa, you will get the opportunity to buy both products (exotic fruits, seafood, local sweets), and all kinds of products of Polynesian craftsmen.<\/span><\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row full_width=”stretch_row_content”][vc_column][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1691247659948{margin-bottom: 2em !important;}”]<\/p>\n
